Consumer rights where you live
- United StatesUSThere is no general federal right to return purchases in the US; return windows are mostly set by each retailer. Federal law does protect you on credit card billing errors, unauthorized electronic payments and airline refunds.
- CanadaCAConsumer protection in Canada is mainly provincial, so your rights depend on where you live. Air travel is covered nationally by the Air Passenger Protection Regulations.
- United KingdomGBUK law gives you 30 days to reject faulty goods for a full refund, and 14 days to cancel most online and phone purchases. Credit card purchases between £100 and £30,000 also get Section 75 protection.
- European UnionEUEU law gives you 14 days to withdraw from most online and off-premises purchases, and a minimum two-year legal guarantee on faulty goods. Air passengers are protected by Regulation 261/2004.
- AustraliaAUThe Australian Consumer Law gives automatic consumer guarantees on goods and services. If there is a major failure, you can choose a refund. There is no legal right to a change-of-mind refund.
- IndiaINIndia's Consumer Protection Act, 2019 protects you against defective goods, deficient services and unfair trade practices. E-commerce platforms must clearly display their return and refund policies.
